Notes

The Ghostwriter Publications edition, which was issued in both trade paperback and limited edition hardback, added a "prologue, epilogue and a completely new chapter", a foreword by J. F. Gonzalez, co-author of Clickers, and a tagline by Brian Keene.

New English Library History

Night of the Crabs has been reprinted by New English Library many times with conflicting details:

  1. The original edition has 29425 at the base of the spine. It was reprinted in at least August 1976 and February 1977. The latter also mentions a November 1976 reprint, though I don't own a copy to validate. This list of reprints is what's listed in the publishing history of the 1979 new edition.
  2. I also own a September 1977 reprint of this edition, which isn't mentioned in that 1979 edition. It contains a publishing history too, but only mentions July 1976 and November 1976, omitting August 1976 and February 1977.
  3. A new edition was published in March 1979. This has 43894 at the base of the spine, loses the purple background from the NEL logo and moves the cover logo from the top right to the top left. It also has a different ISBN and price, now 70p instead of 60p. This edition erroneously lists The Crabs as a previous book in Guy's bibliography.
  4. This was reprinted in November 1980, though this seems to be a new edition in everything but name. It has 50378 at the top of the spine and the introductory pages are all reworked. Again this has a new ISBN and price, now 90p.
  5. A final new edition was published in 1983, with the tagline changed from "In the tradition of The Rats" to "Death was emerging from the sullen sea". This version was later used for the Black Hill Books e-book version.

Many thanks to Phil Ellett for providing a high quality scan of the 1983 cover with the "Death was emerging from the sullen sea" blurb.
