IntroductionCaerlaverock was a book catalogue, the list that Guy ran before Black Hill Collector while he lived at the house in Tamworth of that name. In fact, it was originally titled The Caerlaverock List: Initially, it existed only for that purpose: to sell books, magazines and other ephemera that Guy had accumulated for sale. It was a simple typed list: However, issue 13 marked a number of changes. It shifted from a long format sheet to standard A4, folded in half and stapled. It gained a cover, albeit one that was stencilled rather than drawn. And it started to include fiction, both by Guy and, on occasion, others, like Andy Darlington. The Secret of Roman Valley, a 21 part serial, was the only fiction Guy ever wrote in collaboration with his mother, Elizabeth M. Weale. Guy also contributed cryptograms to issues 22 and 24. This continued until the final issue, issue #40, at which point Guy moved from Tamworth to the Black Hill and started up Black Hill Collector, which for 42 issues 'incorporated Caerlaverock'. While it remained in the same format, it went back to being a simple sales list at that point. For other work, return to Short Stories or Broken Backlist. Varied StoriesIssues #13 to #16 featured a variety of stories, across genres, all by Guy:
Raymond OdellAfter a few issues with stories and poems by guest authors, Guy returned in issue #20 with a set of stories about his own Dixon Hawke-inspired detective, Raymond Odell. He was omitted from issues #23 and #26 for lack of space, but may well have appeared in #21; I don't have a copy to validate.
The Secret of Roman ValleyAlso beginning in issue #20 was an adventure serial entitled The Secret of Roman Valley, which Guy wrote in collaboration with his mother, Elizabeth M. Weale. This ran for 21 episodes, concluding in the final issue, #40. Chapter 10 (issue #29) and Chapter 21 (#40) were untitled. I don't know the title of Chapter 2 (issue #21), as I don't have a copy.
